Clifton FC v Cudham Utd
Today saw a top of the table clash with our old rivals from Div 4 Cudham.
Although it was our home game the game was played at a neutral venue but was in tip top shape. Shame the conditions weren't as good!!
In a tactical move we chose the changing room with heating thinking they'd come out cold! Warm up went well with a few late comers and Rick warming up in Columbos coat!!
Game kicked off and we had a half chance 30 seconds in but no good. It was obvious this wasn't going to be a great footballing game with both teams finding it hard in the wind. They had a few corners in a short spell but Reevsey delt with them well. Len had a chance but although hit it well went wide. Was a scrappy half with maybe Cudham just edging it. Soon they had a free kick which with us playing a high line was whipped into a decent area..they reacted better and head the ball home. 1 nil down. We got slightly better in last 10 but still didn't make anything happen. Andy had to come off ill halftime unfortunately,other highlights of the half were..
* Stu's diving hand ball, * Hoops getting used as a doormat, * Me getting the ball smashed in his chest then only 5 mins later getting the ball headed straight in his face by Shaun!
Second half and a few new faces on the pitch and we this time just edged it but again creating nothing.
Half pretty much played out with Dunc taking about 50 throw ins down the right hand side. At one stage he looked like a fella walking his dog at the park with Mark Rodgers being sent to get the ball back. Throw in..smashed out...go on Marky go fetch it...good boy Mark good boy!! With Baz Timebomb Oldfield on it was only a matter of time till he went off..."Ref ref he just punched me in the mouth...really?" "Well I didnt do it myself did I? !!" 😳
With the game almost dead they nicked another goal with about 5 mins to go. Time played out and unfortunately we lost only our second game all season.
Debate with Ref and Baz continued in the changing room on bleeding lip incident !! Game was debated over a few beers in the pub and Shaun got round 3 from Baz and the bleeding lip incident! ! We all felt so sorry for Baz so even let him win the scratch card which got the Left backs mood up until Rick took a break from his phone to bring him back down!!
As we all left the pub Rick was left doing a Gary Neville play by play on the arcade machine! Not a good day for the boys today but still a long way to go in the season so let's kick on learn from today and show them mugs and rest of league whose the top boys of this league!!
