Clifton FC v Phoenix Ultras FC
Well a week after picking up only our second defeat and 2 and a half months after our last home game we were back at the home of football!
The boys started to arrive and seemed a good buzz with a bit of banter and normal hellos,until...The return of the Italian stud Alberto! Still dressed sharp but with snot running down his face hair all over the show waving his phone in the air shouting "I need a charger guys!!" After trying to plug his phone in the telly and Champs car I said "Fuck all that Nobby let's get changed! " Well poor move Skip...he hit me with "I'm waiting on a very fucking important business text this is more fucking important man!!" Well I felt like a school kid again....Ooooo! I do apologise though apparently someone was putting in a big order of coffees for the commute Monday morning. ..2 Flat whites,Americano and a Latte!! The comedy continued with Hoops trying to change a light bulb in the changing rooms! All was sorted and normality continued..music on getting match ready...all but one thing! I look to my right and Hoops is slipping on a long sleeve under top...then questioning Andy on where he got his pink boots! Then in the warm up he's chasing me for my gloves, this all from a no nonsense center mid very odd. But when the team is announced it all comes clear Hoops up top!! Going all flair player love it!!
Next thing.."Sorry boys ref not playing the game as we're both wesring same black shorts and socks!" U having a laugh. After a bit of negotiation we agreed to cocoon our socks in white tap. ..Yeah much better Ref cheers for that! !
Pitch looked decent and given our recent games looked like it was about 10 acres!! Game kicked off and I think we looked the better team although they were a much better side from our previous encounter. Boys at the back kept things tight and we had spells of some good football..4-4-2 seemed to be working this week. Soon after a good pass wide to Alberto from the Skipper aka Sat Nav a good ball in and Scott (who's a goal machine at the moment) was there to make it 1-0. They cheated on and kept us busy and themselves in the game. Soon Rick made a good run after some dipsy doodle but the bobble got the better of him and couldn't finish!
Alberto was being productive after a week on the beach making some good runs in the box but again we could convert. Hoops coached Andy Up top and both were keeping their back 4 busy! Best mad moment of the half soon came about Dunc being bored of not smashing anyone from Phoenix he decided to Iron out Rick after a late call. To be fair if he'd done that on the street he'd been charged with GBH and if it had been Reevsey it probably would have broke every bone in his body if not kill led him!!
Half time and game was still tight at 1-0.
Couple of changes which saw Stu back up top,seems like the end of the death tackle. Wind had picked up and this half seemed alot harder and with them squeezing on seemed like all Reevsey did was take goal kicks! When we did push forward Stu had decided to camp out offside!
We defended well and limited them to minimal chances. Dunc's Tutu moment came soon after winning the ball then kicking his left foot to kick the ball straight out! Few good moves soon came as they tired some good one twos from myself Scott Hoops Alberto Rick and we looked threatening again. After a short throw I set Hoops back who set Alberto who put a great cross in..Scott nodded down and Stu now on side calmy slotted home...2-0. Think we now pushed on and on the dying minutes I found myself some space I waited and waited for the right time to slide in Rick.. I made the pass but he was too slow and just fell over...Sometimes I forget my football brain is on a higher level .
Game finished 2-0..deserved win. Everyone put in a good effort and we're back on track! All buzzing in the changing room after and Alberto even pushed our mood higher showing us his Mankini tan lines!!
Dunc picked up the Tutu and was buzzing he got it even rung his mum to tell her as it's first thing he's won...Didn't want to take it off!
Top result and back on top of the league...need to keep it going now boys still a long way to go.
