Clifton FC v Blyth Hill

So this week saw our final game in our 2015/16 season. At home to Blythe who we'd beaten 3-2 in the first game away. With our end of season booze up and presentation set for after the game everyone was there on time and buzzing to get that all important last 3 points! Squad was pretty much at maximum with everyone chopping to get a run out. Hoops showed off his new boots which cost more than most of the teams weekly wage or Hunters hourly rate!! Ref popped his head (as normal) "Alright lads where's the pitch?!" Wow this could be an interesting afternoon!! Buzz continued in the warmup, pitch was harder than Lens cock in Amsterdam a few weeks ago! Could see the size of the pitch worried Blythe, with a few units in their side and the sun shining we really fancied it today! I won my first match toss only taken about 18 games. They kicked off and we got at them straight away,we really wanted to go at them early. We put them under pressure high but with their 3 in midfield and a forward dropping off they caused a few problems on the break. We reshuffled formation slightly playing 3 at the back with Shaun Pique moving slightly forward to pick up the spare man and link up the midfield. Reevesy made a few good saves though which kept us on the front foot and if they'd gone in could have been a different story! This worked better and we started to play some good football. We went ahead from an unlikely source. Ricks quick thinking..gave the ball to a free Baz who struck the ball like Roberto Carlos which found the top corner..this was a technique the fullback likes to call.."Hit and Hope!!!" Who cares if it was a cross 1 nil to the boys! Didn't have to wait too long for the second..coming from a simular area of the pitch as Baz's strike...Hoops struck a low free kick into the front post which Shaun dummied and the ball found its way into the back of the net!! Back to the familiar Clifton now! Although we took our foot off the gas a bit we continued to dominate in most areas...Hightower 1 and 2 in their centre mid couldn't buy a header and were quickly running out of steam. Len had a few early strikes...one finally landed in my garden about 2pm this afternoon and Hunter tried a long range effort after seeing the keeper way out of position. Baz kept playing lovely 50 yard passes to the trees lining the left hand side of the pitch...Might have to change his nickname from Timebomb to Shank. Champs played a few standard deathpasses...and Rick went off for a blow after picking up his lungs! Half played out and we went in 2 nil up...another big 45 and we'd done all we could this season to go up. Second half got underway and they pushed on which put us on the back foot a bit and took us a while to settle. Half hour to go a few changes were made one of which was Mark Rodgers who was hoping to take his 2015/16 match time to 45 minutes!! We had a few chances..and bar a few corners kept them out our box for the rest of the half. Shaun continued to enjoy his new role keeping his pass completion rate to 95%...Hoops kept up his recent good form and kept things going forward another goal surely would be sooner rather than later. With Stu coming on and after a good passing move he found himself in a good position to score and I think everyone involved with Clifton was really hoping he notched. But it wasn't to be. Mark Rodgers had a mad swing and a miss which led to him getting the last Tutu and Team Wally award for the season. Baz had his standard handbags with their forward and tried desperately to get a booking!! Soon it was 3 nil coming from a throw...and Mr Golden boot (in his new white boots) was there to finish the job!! This killed them off but we'd worked so hard that they still had a fair bit of pocession in the dying minutes of the game due to our fatigue. But all worked hard to keep them out with even a bit of composed defending from Rick!! With pretty much the last kick if the game and a run on to a decent switched pass Shauny Pique hit the bar...then ref blew full time job done. That was the season done...finis
