Greedy Sports v Clifton FC (Friendly Match)
This week saw a break in fixtures for us but to keep momentum we travelled into the ghetto to play Greenways sports in a friendly.
With a few players resting a few knocks and a some with work commitments it was a chance to try out some new faces and to get some good game time under some players belts! Pitch looked decent (but anything was better than last week) and oppo seemed to have good numbers but we were up for it with a good vibe in the dressing room.
With Alberto doing runs up and down the A2 we had to start with the bare 11. They started the better side keeping the ball well but not really creating much until they forced Big Mark to a good save! We started to get a bit of the ball and scored probably against the run of play with a good combo from the newbies. Good cross field pass from Stotty found Gareth in the box for a tidy finish. This was the start of the enemies frustration. From then the game took a turn with us defending well and starting to play a bit but it came at its price with Greenways frustration they took to trying to stop us by putting in some nasty challenges! I knew if it continued we would have to unleash Captain Caveman Dunc to Iron a few players out! By this time Alberto had found the road the ground was in but was none the wiser of where the ground was! The game continued to be stretched and soon saw us get a free kick just outside the box after a foul on Rick although Andy had put the ball in the net!! Stu stepped up and........ chipped a lovely ball into the keepers hands!! By this time Alberto was now lost in the car park!! Halftime came and went went in 1 nil up.
Few players showed their frustrations but Baz got us all focused again and we started the second half!
They started well but was non productive in final 3rd. We caught them on the break with Rick racing towards goal. Like my goal last week time seemed to slow up as he beat his man and smashed the ball towards the far post. The ball seemed to take forever bouncing this way and that before finally running out of pace as it hit the net! 2-0 to the Mighty Orange!
If we thought they moaned in the first half it was nothing they stepped it right up now! All we could hear was "How are we losing,We are better side they are Shit" But it's 2-0 boys that's what we do slip the jabs then knock u down!! They saw good spells of the ball but again didn't finish. Then there was a moment when a nothing through ball was gathered by their forward he was travelling away from goal nowhere to go...everyone shouting "Stay on ur feet Stu" but NO he didn't get the kung-fu trophy last year for nothing he flies through the air chopping he fella down like some mad 80s kung-fu movie!! Penalty!! If u looked over even Fran his misses and little man could be seen shaking their heads! Mouth all mighty stepped up and dragged the ball wide let off still 2-0. This gave us a lift and we got back in the game again and had some chances. They pressed and got a goal through a long throw with a centre half mothers meeting in the box was a easy finish!
They kept pressing and we kept trying the counter and the occasional long ball 😳 Duncan finally got his moment to settle a few scores when he smashed their left mid in a 80/20 where he was the 20 to win the ball but did! All the guy could do was pick up the bits of his leg and look for his shin pad which was smashed out in the process!
After a 62 min second half the game finished with another win for the Mighty Clifton. Result didn't matter in this one but the new boys stepped up and we dug in and did the bizo. After the boys helping Gareth and Stotty find their lungs in was back to the changing room to see what they had in the shower!!
Keeps the momentum going and was a good team bonding sesh with all the boys sticking together. After my driving getting lost we joined the boys for a few beers and to eat all the oppos grub!! We're still not sure if Alberto is home safe as some of the fellas in the pub said they'd seen a flash motor going round the one way in Gravesend! !!
Top Saturday,what it's all about...roll into next week's big cup game!!
