Phoenix Ultras FC v Clifton FC
Third league game of our Div 3 campaign took us away to Phoenix Ultras an established side it our league.
All the boys were buzzing before the game,and was given an extra boost with Hoops back in the loop! Pre match went well although was clear the Gaffer still had the beer Googles on from the night before when he stated it was a good size pitch.....Maybe if we were still 10!! Once the oppo cleared off the tractors and horses off the pitch we were ready to go. We started well and was obvious we were the better side and soon went ahead from a good finish from new signing Lendog,his first competitive Clifton goal.
Phoenix saw a couple of chances miss the target and Reevsey made a couple of saves. But once we got used to the bobble of the ball on the pitch we soon created a few more chances and after a well worked goal from the back...Swift passing from Duncan to Marvel then slotted Andy down the wing nice square ball and Lendog was there to double his and our goal tally in the game! We pretty much controlled the game although there was a couple of mad moments with Baz being one of them by trying to head a ball on the floor!!
Halftime we went in after a good half all be it with headaches after listening to the oppos constant moaning!!
A handful of changes were made at halftime but it didn't stop our flow as we came out the traps the better side and it wasn't long before we were 3 nil up after what has been described as a Thunder strike from about 25 yards out by myself. All happened so fast for the rest of the team and the oppo but time slowed down for me,I knew the boys needed the 3rd goal to relax and I just took the bull by the horns. Chris set me and I knew what I needed to do I moved the ball forward waiting for it to sit up just right then I unleashed the power!! Smash have that 3 nil the lads went mental was one of my favourite Clifton moments.
We continued to be the better side and made a few changes here and there to keep things fresh.
Then the Tutu moment happened Baz came on at left back got the ball short from Reevsey dribbled the ball forward spun then slotted in their forward! Duncan was squaring up to their winger Champs was star gazing so I knew I had to help the boys out again! I just got there in time and saved the cleansheet.
Game finished and another 3 points for the Mighty Clifton. Another great effort from the lads on and off the pitch and we keep the momentum going.
Break in fixtures next week but will be keeping the eye in with a friendly good opportunity to work on a few things.
